Without John Hines ’05, MAT’06 the history teacher, it’s unlikely there would be John Hines the community leader and John Hines the football coach—much less John Hines the deputy mayor of Tacoma. Hines sees himself as equal parts guide and advocate. That ethos, he says, bloomed at Puget Sound, which made him more intellectually curious and critical. “It opened my eyes to the fact that I have a little more control over my own destiny,” he says. Hines will receive Puget Sound's 2025 Service to Community Alumni Award at Summer Reunion Weekend.

Vice President of Student Affairs & Dean of Students Sarah Comstock was interviewed on the One Question Leadership Podcast about how she developed a philosophy of athletics after Logger Athletics moved under the Division of Student Affairs in 2023. The move is part of a larger initiative to build a championship culture at Puget Sound and provide wraparound services to support student-athletes.

Puget Sound Crew claimed the Northwest Conference Championship for the second consecutive year. The team secured the Judy McMullan Trophy by winning the women's varsity eight race with a time of 7:20.5. Three Loggers earned First Team All-Conference honors—Ellery Garcia ’28, Luci Reed ’26, and Maddie Johnson ’25—and Head Coach Dave Hammond was named NWC Coach of the Year.

On April 30 at 4 p.m., Puget Sound will mark the last day of classes for the spring semester with a longstanding tradition—Pops on the Lawn. This outdoor (weather permitting) concert features the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble with student conductors. All are welcome to attend to celebrate the end of another academic year. If there's rain in the forecast, the performance will move to Schneebeck Concert Hall.

Puget Sound's largest student organization, Repertory Dance Group (RDG) performed their spring showcase last week at Dr. Delores Silas High School in Tacoma. RDG is a non-competitive, student-run group that celebrates the joy of movement and dance. Learn more about RDG.
